Come discover the past with us
Welcome to the Menard County Historical Society. We are located on the historic square across the street where a young Abraham Lincoln surveyed land that became the town of Petersburg, Illinois. Contained within the Frackleton Building (circa 1865) are displays, photos, artifacts and a venue for conducting research. We welcome you to town and hope that you'll take in the many Historic sites and tourist stops. Better yet, spend a weekend.
WE WILL SOON BE DOING ORAL HISTORIES OF SOME OF OUR CITIZENS AS THEY RELATE STORIES FROM THE PAST IN THEIR OWN WORDS
Nearly every page on the website has photos of people, places and things. Our photos and videos connect you to fascinating people and events. Our library of resources will continue to grow in time so be sure to check the website often for new information and more local history.
